The energy transition can only be built if it’s with licensed electrical workers and it can only be delivered through good, safe, well pad secure jobs for electrical workers. That’s why the ETU is proud to be part of the Renew Australia For All campaign.
Over 50 organisations including unions, faith groups, environmental organisations and community groups are campaigning together to win a fair future for all Australians – no-one should be left behind as we transition towards a clean energy future.
Renew Australia for All is fighting for a renewable energy future “where power is shared fairly, our homes and communities are powered with clean affordable energy and there are thousands of well-paid, secure jobs.”
The campaign plan is to deliver a future where our homes and communities are powered with affordable energy for everyone, there are thousands of new, good jobs in our thriving industries, and communities are better prepared for extreme weather and climate disasters.
The alliance is calling for government ambition across four areas:
- Repowering homes, transport and communities with solar, wind and batteries and increased energy efficiency to cut energy bills for good
- Build the power grid we need, with guaranteed good, safe jobs on all government financed projects.
- Resource people and communities
- Secure Australian Manufacturing Industry
Electricians are at the heart of delivering on this campaign.
ETU members understand the importance of good, secure, safe and well-paid jobs in the energy sector and members know that if we want to electrify the nation and transition fairly to renewable energy, the electrical trades will be leading the way.
CEPU SA Delegate, Gaynor represented the union in Parliament. Gaynor shared her story about what being a qualified electrician means to her, why Governments need to invest in apprentices and skills and training in our trades and how everyone should benefit from a renewable future, no matter their pay packet.
“I had the opportunity to share with the MPs on the day, my story about becoming and being an electrician and how important my trade is to me. I spoke to the importance of having well trained apprentices, qualified electricians and safe work practices on every job.
It is important, moving ahead with this initiative that any businesses managing this this work must employ a quota of apprentices, especially of these projects are receiving Government funding. We want to continue to grow our trade at this crucial time and we need to learn from mistakes of the past so we can truly build a fair and just transition for everyone.”
