The ETU has released a National apprentice survey for ETU apprentices
The apprentice survey has been created to gather information around the experiences apprentices are having across Australia.
As a union, we know that the VET sector has a shortage of electrotechnology places and that apprentices have had difficulty getting into trade school and are experiencing significant delays in attending trade school. This creates serious barriers for apprentices working through their training and has a negative impact on completion rates that are already alarming in our trades. Delays in starting trade school also puts apprentices at a disadvantage regarding work health and safety, during their training.
It is important apprentices learn how to keep themselves safe and be armed with knowledge of the risks associated with our industry and the legislative requirements around apprentice supervision.
The ETU has set up this survey to give apprentices a pathway to providing their union with key information about their apprenticeship and experiences around how they are tracking through their training. The information gathered will help ETU members to put pressure on Governments and stakeholders to increase VET places, to incentivise electrical workers moving into training and highlighting the safety issues that need addressing.
